Project

This site was contracted to me at around the same time of the Clapham sites during Spring of 2020. Much the same as that site, lockdown restrictions had deprived this garden of the regular maintainence it needed and as it goes with untended rose beds, huge weeds had sprung up amongst the roses, cutting off the much needed supply of water and nutrients.

Process

We usually do not like to use the word "weeds" and we don't like to remove any spontaneous selfseeded plant from our gardens, unless they are invasive. In the Rose bed we had to make an exception, roses are very fussy.  So we did put lot of work to clear the ground from any other plant, leaving only roses and bulbs. From there we added mulch to help maintain it into the future, we pruned the roses, we fed them with natural, non chemical feed, we sprayed them with neem oil, and we restored the beauty and glory of this 60m2 Rose bed, hidden gem of London Bridge.

This Rose bed is located on a Council estate ground, but it is very visible from the street. It’s right opposite Guy’s hospital, and I hope that patients and visitors of the hospital who happen to pass by enjoy the sight of the flowers and maybe find comfort from them. I can say for sure that there is appreciation from local residents, local cats, and passers by who often stop and take pictures. The roses are happy to share their beauty with whomever wishes to walk by.
